Itsukushima Shrine

This place makes you feel as if you get lost in a different world – Itsukushima Shrine. A huge Torii and a group of shrines looks as if they are floating on the sea, and not existing in this world… Many locals and tourists visit this place to see this shrine which is designated as UNESCO world heritage site.

One of the features might be its corridor. There are no walls in this red corridor so that it is exposed to the sea directly. You can enjoy the views of the shrines that float onto the sea in a mysterious atmosphere at high tide, or you can walk directly to a huge Torii at low tide. Misen

“Misen” in Miyajima (Itsukushima) measures a height of 535m. As you might know from the facts that there’s a Itsukushima shrine at the skirts, Daishoin at the bottom, and Miyama shrine at the top of the mountain, it has been venerated through a long hisotry. The Forest of Miyama at the back of Itsukushima shrine is designated as a world heritage site.

Here at the mountain, the primitive nature, which has been worshiped, still remains. The views from the observatory deck are amazing! This is one of the best places you must try when visiting Hiroshima!

Hotarumi Park

As everything is covered with darkness, the scenery of lights are so romantic! One of the most popular sightseeing spots “Hotarumi Park” in Hiroshima lets you see the fireflies as its name. “Sera Plateau Farm” in Hiroshima – where there’s rich nature – has the different flowers in each season. Tulips in spring, sunflower in summer, dahlia in autumn are covering the grounds.

Especially, flower art created with tulips in spring is one of the features here. Tulips with different colours make an authentic art. Kids can also enjoy as there are other entertainment including the cafe, restaurant, and activities. This is suitable for families too!

Taishaku Kyou

This is definitely the one you must visit in Hiroshima – “Taishaku Kyou”. This place is located in the Chugoku Mountains of the northeasterly part of Hiroshima with a length of 18km. It is designated as 100 landscapes of Japan with the beautiful views. In this area, you can enjoy the beautiful sceneries of each season while experiencing the activities such as kayak, segway, and amphibian vehicles.

The most popular season is autumn. It sounds so luxury to take a walk in the autumn leaves! If you want to touch the nature of Hiroshima, this place would be one of the options!

Sandan Kyou

“Sandan Kyou” is a valley located in the northwestern part of Hiroshima with a length of 13km. Here, you can enjoy the beautiful sceneries as if you are a world of landscape painting. It has either a half-day or full-day route for trekking, so you can enjoy looking at the popular spots including the falls and rocks.

Also, you can even enjoy riding on a ferryboat while being surrounded by the beautiful views! This valley has different sceneries of each season – autumn leaves in autumn, and fireflies in summer etc. It literally is worth visiting this place! Once you are in Hiroshima, just try!

Senkouji Park

“Senkouji Park” is an orthodox sightseeing spot in Onomichi surrounded by rich nature in Senkouji Mountain. This place is extremely famous for cherry blossoms as well as azaleas and wisteria flowers, and it is designated as one of Japan’s Top 100 Cherry Blossom Viewing Sites.

The views from the precinct of Senkouji Temple are amazing, and the night view from the deck has been chosen for Top 100 Night Views of Japan. Many couples from inside and outside of the prefecture visit the park every year to see this beautiful night view. There are some facilities such as a museum and a shop here in the park, so enjoy!

“Hiroshima Museum” is a museum located in Hiroshima City Chuo Park and was established in 1978 by Hiroshima bank. The columnar building looks so modern and makes it easier to go around. The exhibits are mainly the works of French modern art, and many artworks are so colourful that it’s so refreshing to look!

As there are other sightseeing spots such as Hiroshima castle or Hiroshima Sogo (shopping centre) around the museum, so it wouldn’t be boring to visit this area at all! This place is great for the art fanatics. If you are seeking love and relaxation, try visiting here!

Takehara Town Conservation Area

Takehara Town Conservation Area is said to be a little Kyoto of Aki, and you will feel an old Japanese atmosphere with the buildings from the Edo era. Even though the building are quite old, people still live here in this traditional area of town. You can get a sense of a time travel.

Also, “Nishikata Temple, Fumeikaku” is quite famous for its beautiful sceneries and especially, the views from the stone stairs are photogenic. There’s no reason that you avoid this place once you are in Hiroshima!

Okunoshima

A small island floating on the Inland Sea of Seto with a perimeter of 4km – “Okunoshima”. This island is not so big as just one day would be enough to walk around. And in Okunoshima, you will meet and touch wild rabbits. The number would be like 700! There’s no other place that you can experience this!

If you are interested in feeding them, don’t forget to prepare before going on a journey. Where? – you can get the feed at the shop or the convenience store near Tada no Umi Harbour and Tada no Umi Station. The paradise of rabbits, Okunoshima, why not take photos with them?
