A new local gourmet of Aki – “Pettara Pottara”. Pettara Pottara is basically sticky rice produced in Hiroshima with locally farmed oysters on top, and covered with congers also from Hiroshima, and grilled with the original sauce.

Outside – crispy, inside – soft. Fresh oysters and congers are really well with sticky rice. This is actually good for hot pot as well as walking around while having a walk. This is what you must try when you visit Miyajima!

On the street little far from a busy street of Omotesando, there is this “CAFÉ HAYASHIYA” which feels a nostalgic atmosphere. This cafe was born as part of project of the famous cafe “Yakigaki no Hayashi” with the most popular menu being “HAYASHIYA Tea’s Parfeit”.

This is a luxury original parfeit which contains a roll cake, Miyajima granola, soft serve, BOCCANO gelato, and homemade sweet bean paste. It also looks adorable as there is a little deer shaped cookie on top!

It is basically a stick deep fried Kamaboko (boiled fish paste), and has 14 different flavours such as oysters, squid, squid tentacles, shrimps, crabs, octopus, octopus & spring onions, cod roe, chicken meatballs, quails, lotus roots, burdock, edamame, spring onions & ginger, cheese, cheese & bacon, asparagus & bacon, potato & bacon, and Hiroshima style Okonomiyaki etc. Octopus & spring onions and asparagus bacon are especially recommended.

This popular restauraut “Kakiya” was once listed on the Michelin Guide. Each oyster farmed locally in a rich environment of Hiroshima is quite big, and has natural sweetness. They do not use too much seasonings so that you can get the real taste of natural oysters.
