Yokohama opened their port after concluding the Treaty of Amity and Commerce Between the United States and the Empire of Japan in 1859. Yokohama is famous for Iekei Ramen which is a soy sauce based ramen that is served with boiled egg, spinach, roasted pork fillet, and a thick noodle. The birthplace of this ramen is here at Yoshimura-ke, which opened in 1974. 1,500 people come here every day.

They serve normal ramen or Char-siu ramen only. You can order a normal size, one a little bit bigger, or the biggest amount. Also, you can ask for soft or hard noodles and the amount of oil. If you pay extra money you can get other toppings too!

Tanmen is a stir-fried meat and vegetable ramen that came from China. The most famous location for this dish is in Yokohama’s China Town. Tanmen in Yokohama is called Yokohama Tanmen and is way different from normal Tanmen.

It includes thick, flat noodles and lots of vegetables with in a salty Chinese broth. This restaurant is popular to the local people. They make their original style soup and vegetables using charcoal. This is absolutely the best Tanmen ever.

Sanmamen is served with lots of vegetables and noodles with a starchy sauce and it used to only be eaten by employees of the restaurant during world war two. After world war two, this started getting popular in Yokohama.

The porta branch is known as the originator of Sanmamen and is famous for the best taste.

They started to serve Pikata-rice since they opened restaurant in 1914. They were nominated “Oishiimono Totsuka brand” which meant it was popular and the charm of Totsuka city. You can only get it here. Come and get it!

Kiyoken restaurant is famous for being a big chain in the Kanto area. They are known as a first place to make shu mai in 1928. The head store is at Nishiku in Yokohama city.

And they have original set that is called Honten original set. This is served with 3 types of shumai, “kuwai shumai” that includes water chestnuts, “hukahire to shumai” that includes cheese and shiso leaves, “salmon shumai” that includes cheese and basil.

If you want to get it you need to reserve 4 days beforehand. If you want normal shumai then that’s no problem! They also have take out menu too. It is good for souvenirs.

Hotel New Grand the café is a restaurant in the first floor of Hotel New Grand. This restaurant is the first place that had western food in Japan. Pasta, seafood doria, pudding à la mode, etc… Their birthplace is in Yokohama before they were super popular in Japan.

Popular dishes here are seafood Doria that is supposed to rejuvenate a sick person, Neapolitan that was used for military meals, and pudding à la mode that was popular for American military wives. If you want to eat western food you should come here.

Outside of Daiichi-tei is decorated with wax menu samples and it looks like local a Chinese restaurant. Lots of media outlets came and interviewed them and some TV shows were filmed here.

It is highly recommend to get a patan that is served with raw garlic and thick noodles. Eating them with soup makes the taste turn mild.

This dish isn’t listed on the menu book. It means this is a secret menu for regular customers. You will need brave to order it but it’s worth it!

There are various debates but Hujiya yokohama center branch is well known as the birthplace of shortcake in japan. American shortcake is laid with fruits and biscuits. The shortcake they make is replaces the biscuit with a fluffy sponge.

It was not popular when they opened but, 30 years ago, after the refrigerator started getting popular, shortcake became popular among the average family. Come and get the original shortcake especially for people with a sweet tooth!
