1. Spicy Pollack roe, Tsubudashi

Spicy Pollack roe is typical souvenir from Hakata. There are lots of chances to eat at like restaurants or hotels. Lots of people may think to buy for your family or friends.

But if you buy a box, it is pain to carry, so we suggest one with tube. It is very useful as you can pull out as much as you want if it is tube.

There are lots of brands but our suggestion is “Spicy pollack roe, Tsubudashi”by Chikae. You can use it for rice ball, bread with butter, pasta or potato salad. You can buy it at Chikae honpo, Hakata station or Fukuoka airport so you can stop by on your way home.

2. Abekku ramen

Ramen became national food nowadays but ramen in Kyushu has each qualities. Kumamoto ramen is very popular for tourists. But what do they eat when they want to eat at home?

“Abekku ramen” is what you can make easily that is made by Itsuki foods that was opened 130 years ago. Abekku means couple. Since it is for 2 people, it was named Abekku. You can find it any local supermarkets. Please buy for souvenir.

3. Kagoshima Kurobuta Miso

What do you think when you hear black pork meat meal in Kagoshima? You may think it is hard to take it home. You may eat for lunch or dinner but there aren’t many things that you can take it home. So our suggestion is Butamiso.

4. Kenjogosanyaki Castella

Castella is a typical souvenir from Nagasaki. It is said it was brought by Portuguese more than 400 years ago. If you walk in the city, you will see lots of stores. It is said there are more than 100 stores of Castella.

Most of them let you taste so you can choose which one you want after trying them. Shokando is brand that we want to suggest. They don’t use any food additives, it takes time and put lots of work.

The Castella is called Kenjogosanyaki Castella. They use more yolk than white that makes it tastier. They have box and wrapped one each. It may be a little too expensive if you buy it for yourself but if it is for someone special, this is the best to buy. Please stop by!

5. Yumeyume dori no hiyashi karaage

In Hakata, chicken or chicken skin is popular. Hiyashi karaage is what they use chicken. It is not just cold fried chicken. Yumeyumedori is the company that makes hiyashi karaage, they searched again and again to make original fried chicken.

6. Ikashumai

Manbo is restaurant on the ocean that people in Saga go. They always have line, if you want to eat squid, people in Saga go this place. No 1 menu is “Ikashumai”.

Of course you can eat at the restaurant but also good for souvenir. You can buy at other places but our suggestion is this restaurant.

If the restaurant is too busy, there is other store in the city. You can see the ocean from terrace table. You can eat and buy souvenir there so please stop by!

7. Obiten

How about buying Obiten if you are not sure what to buy for souvenir when you trip to Miyazaki? Lots of people visit Miyazaki where you can feel Edo period through the year.

Obiten is tempura that is fish and tofu that is made by soy from miyazaki, black sugar and miso. We would like you to stop at Kyodoryori Obitenjyaya or Kyodoryori Obitenzo. If you can’t, you can still buy at Miyazaki airport. So please try!

8. Yuzu kosho

Yuzu kosho is said to be born in Oita. You can use for noodle like Udon and Soba, nabe, Yakitori and row fish. But it has been only 50 years since it was born. Kosho means pepper but Yuzukosho doesn’t have pepper in it.

In Oita, people call something spicy like red pepper Kosho. There is a store that we would like you to stop by at Yufuin that is most famous hot spring area in Oita. It is called Kagiya.

They sell 2 types of Yuzu kosho, red and blue. If you go sightseeing to Yufuin, please stop by!

9. Citrus grandis jam

Do you know Citrus grandis? It is citrus that is made in South East Asia like Malaysia. They have big seed, the biggest can be 25cm wide, 4 kg weight.

Kumamoto makes 90% of citrus gradis, and it is said it is difficult to grow in any other places. Since it is big, it is hard to take it home as souvenir. So we would like to suggest jam. At Fukuda farm, Citrus grandis jam is popular.

People know “Kayanoya dashi”. They order online. It is a pack that chef of Kayanoya restaurant made. It is hard to get at home, so if you buy it as souvenir, people would be happy.

You can use it for Miso soup, Udon or soba of course, you can also use as spice. People who use it once would want to use it again and again. You should get it for yourself too.
