When the cold winter finally approaches to its end, Japanese people start thinking, “Where should we go and see cherry-blossoms this spring?” To Japanese people, the cherry-blossom-viewing has a special meaning. The flower for viewing blossoms must be cherry blossoms. Admiring the whitish pale pink cherry-blossoms, starting with the Someiyoshino (one of the spices of cherry-trees), family, friends and company co-workers all celebrate the coming of spring, sitting on the sheet, eating the packed lunch and singing songs. I’m introducing the recommended cherry-blossom-viewing spots in the Kyushu region. Please indulge yourself in the fun of viewing cherry-blossoms together with the locals you come to know on your trip.

The place where you can take a walk through the tunnel of the cherry-blossoms in the castle town full of the historical atmosphere is the Akizuki in the Asakura-city, called the little-Kyoto in the Kyushu region. A long time ago, as there used to be an avenue of big cedars, it had become to call the place, “Sugi-no-baba-dori” (cedar street). This avenue of cherry-trees is one of the 3 famous spots for cherry-blossoms in the Fukuoka prefecture.

The reason for its popularity is that you can walk along the 500m long pink carpet with the 200 cherry-trees on both sides, feeling as if you had been transported through time. About 400 years ago, one double-petal cherry-tree was planted in order to repose the souls of the dead in the war. That is this [Isshingyo-no-ohzakura]. After the passing of 400 years, it has changed its appearance into the great cherry-tree which has a trunk girth of more than 7m and the branches have expanded 20m outwards in every direction. It is impressively expressing the coming of spring together with the yellow rapeseed flowers spreading around the tree and the dignified Aso mountain range at the back.

Needless to say, the [Isshingyo-no-ohzakura] is the well-known place of cherry-blossoms. If you would like a cherry-blossom-viewing, there is no other place like this one! Please confirm its appearance which has miraculously survived from the earthquake. This is the recommended place to view the cherry-blossoms in the Kyushu region.
