The 10 Best Beaches You Must Visit in Okinawa, Japan

Blue ocean and blue sky. Where can you find them other than Okinawa? There are lots of islands in Okinawa so there are lots of beaches too. Today we would like to introduce beaches that have beautiful sand and easy to go in main island and around that area. Please visit when you go to Okinawa!

1. Aharen Beach

Tokashiki island is 35 minutes away by marine Tokashiki from Tomari port in Naha. In March 2014, it became worldwide famous. The beach is very beautiful. “Aharen beach” is beautiful beach that is 800 meters long.

The water is clear and there are corals, so it is good for snorkel. Also you can do banana boat or sea kayak too. In summer, they open marine shop so you don’t have to worry about toilet or shower. You can go there for a day trip from main island. There is a view spot if you go up stairs beside the beach.

2. Sesoko Beach

After crossing 762 meter bridge, you arrive Sesoko island. The island is so small that population is less than 1000. Since they built the bridge, it gets easy to go and became popular.

There are lots of tourists all year especially in summer. Sesoko beach has 1km white sand beach that is natural. It is one of the clearest water around main island.

You can snorkel to see colorful fish. They have parking lot and shower. Sesoko island is also famous for sunset and starry sky. After playing on the beach, how about enjoying sunset and starry sky?

3. Emerald Beach

The NO1 sightseeing place in Okinawa is “Okinawa Churaumi aquarium”. Emerald beach is in that park area. There are 3 parts of beach. The water is very clear. The white sand is very beautiful to look.

You can rent umbrella or float, also they have parking lot. You can’t snorkel. It is good place especially for family. You can see Ieshima island from Nagamenohama, and the sunset is beautiful. We suggest to go there and Churaumi aquarium.

4. Nagannu Island

The real name is “Keise island”, but it is called “Nagannu island.” It is a small island and it is made by three island, Nagannu island, Kamiyama island, and Kuefu island. The island is surrounded by corals.

It takes only 20 minutes from main island. You can book marine activities through travel agency but also you can book on that day at the island. You are not allowed to bring any food to the island, so use their dining.

They have light meal and drink, also you can buy sun cream and beach sandals at the store. You can also stay at cottage at the island. You can enjoy quiet beach and night sky.

5. Minna Island

It takes 15 minutes by jet boat from main island. It looks like crescent moon and called “croissant island, that population is only about 40. It is surrounded by corals and you can see lots of fish. About 6 million tourists visit here for this blue ocean.

From July to September, umbrella and BBQ lunch come with tour. Also you can add snorkel, kayak and banana boat if you want. You can enjoy this island even it’s winter. From January to March, they have whale watching that you have 98% chances of meeting whales.

They have a place to stay in the island so you can stay of course. How about spending relaxing time?

6. Irie Beach

“Tacchu” is a symbol for Irie island. The population is about 5000. It takes about 30 minutes from Honbe port. In the end of April, they have Irie island Lily festival. Lots of tourists visit there.

Irie beach is located East West of the island that has beautiful white sand beach. You can see Minna island and Sesoko island across the ocean. It costs to use the beach, toilet and shower. Stay at guest house or hotel and please relax.

7. Kouri Beach

Kouri bridge was built in 2005 and you can’t help get excited to see the view! There are some beaches is Kouri island but our suggestion is Kouri beach. You can see it soon after crossing the bridge.

There is a parking lot near the beach and you can rent toilet, shower and marine stuff. The beach is good for little kids too. Even if you don’t swim, you can enjoy the view. There are café in the island too. Don’t you want to spend relaxing time in here?

It is close to Naha city and the airport. It is a new beach that was made in 2006. In swimming area, they have net for avoiding jelly fish and they always have life guard there. You can’t snorkel but the with sand is good for kids.

You can rent umbrella and bed so it should be fine if you have only bathing suit.You can also have BBQ too. It costs but they have big parking lot, toilet and shower so you can enjoy blue ocean.

9. Furuzamami Beach

Zamami island is about 50 minutes away from main island by jet boat and Furuzamami beach is one of the most popular beach in the islands. It got two stars on Michelin green guide Japon.

If you swim just a little, you can see corals and fish. You can rent life jacket and fin mask. If you are lucky, you may see sea turtle when you go snorkel. You will feel southern island there. There are lots of shops that they have toilet and shower.

It is popular beach so it will be crowded in summer but you can swim even in October. So how about going there around that time?

10. Mibaru beach

It is the most famous beach in Southern Okinawa island. It is only 40 minutes drive from the airport but the water is very clear. Swimming in the ocean is of course good but BBQ or glass boat are popular which is natural aquarium. You might see lots of fish. If you visit in best season, enjoy banana boat or marine jet.

Little kids also can enjoy since they can see a little fish and crab. You can rent umbrella, chair and float, of course they have toilet and shower too. If you want to stay in the city and enjoy beach, this beach is the best.
