The 10 Best Unagi Restaurants You Must Eat in Arashiyama, Kyoto
What good about eel are cooked skin, fluffy meat and juice. Eel became expensive fish as it’s getting harder to raise these days but you want to eat good eel, don’t you? Today, we would like to introduce good eel (unagi) restaurants in Arashiyama, top 10. How about going to eat good eel?
1. Unagiya Hirokawa
“Unagiya Hirokawa” is located in front of Tenryu temple which is the biggest temple in Arashiyama. They have table seats on the first floor and tatami seats and reservation seats on the second floor.
It is always crowded so if you don’t want to wait, we recommend you to reserve second floor. They get eel from all over Japan such as Shizuoka, Aichi, Kagoshima every day and they release them to water in Sagano to wash off the scent.
They boil eel first and then cook which is Kanto style. Please try most famous eel restaurant in Kyoto that got stars from Michelin.

2. Unagi Issei
“Unagiya Issei” is located a few minutes from Hankyu Arashiyama Katsura station. The owner is from Unagiya Hirokawa, so it is popular for people in Kyoto.
They use eel from Aichi or Kyushu and cook them with Kanto style. They use sauce depends on the seasons. It is always crowded with people in Kyoto, so we suggest you to book before you go.

Candy is located at a few minutes from Hankyu Arashiyama line Matsuotaisha station by foot. They use original sauce from Kyoto gion Edoyakiunagi and Kyo obansai “Kabochanotane”.
They have lunch menu for 1500 yen. They have other menu too so even if you go someone who doesn’t like eel, you don’t have to worry. Please visit!

Fukui is located at a few minutes from Hankyu Kyoto line Nishikyogoku station that is near Katsura river. This place has been opened by owner who trained in Hamamatsu where is famous for eel.
They get eel from Hamamatsu and cook Kanto style. Eel bowl is 1350 yen and up, they also have course. Please try! You will meet eel that makes you smile.

Nakagawa is located at Randen Arashiyama station. It is on quiet street that is near main street of Arashiyama. The owner owned fish store before so it is famous for good fish. You can eat Unajyu for lunch at Nakagawa.
Unajyu is rice bowl with eel on the top of rice, and it comes with soup and dessert for 1000yen. It is lunch only. Arashiyama is where you can see nature and history. Please visit!

Arashiyama Tanaka is a food store that is located at JR Saga Arashiyama station. Tourists come to buy like croquette or cooked fish to take for sightseeing with.
The store is also known as where you can get expensive fish. Their eel is cooked with Kansai style. You can’t eat inside the store but they have many kinds of eel to go. Please try for yourself or as souvenir.

Mancho is located at Randen Kitano line Myoshinji station and it has been opened for 80 years near Myoshinji temple north gate. It has been loved for 80 years.

Seishuan Arashiyama is located at 1 minute from Togetsukyo, Arashiyama by foot. They are famous for homemade tofu and homemade soba. You can eat eel with soba and tofu.
They have table seats and tatami seats. You can see Togetsukyo from any seats at this restaurant so it is good for sightseeing. If you come to Kyoto for sightseeing, please visit Arashiyama too.

10. Ryuhei soba
Ryuhei soba is located near Katsurarikyu. They make homemade soba using Japanese flour. They change how to make depends on how to cook.
