One of the first places you will likely hear mentioned when you mention Japanese sake in Fushimi is “Torisei”. They have been around for over 300 years and have the shop with the perfect atmosphere to enjoy your sake and yakitori.
Here you can enjoy unprocessed sake or new sake only available in the winter. Come enjoy specialty sake and yakitori made with special sake sauce. The yakitori here is plentiful in variety so you can also fill up on food alone. You may have to wait to be seated on holidays, however it is worth it if you are a sake lover.

3. Kyogoku Stand

The following shop is located on a very popular shopping street in Kyoto. There you will find this unique shop that began in the beginning of the Showa period. When you enter the shop you will find a retro atmosphere that has been preserved.

If you want to visit a traditional izakaya of Kyoto, Akagiya is where you must go. They were opened in 1934 and have remained a representative of Kyoto izakaya for all these years. When you enter there is no background music and everyone enjoys their sake in quiet. You may be surprised to not find the prices on the menu but they are not that high.
Tighten mackerel, duck loin, oden and other specially seasoned dishes are among the cuisine available here. These will help you to realize why becoming an adult is so amazing. This is not the place to come and be loud with your friends. However, if you wish to relax in a laid back environment as you enjoy your sake this is the place to be! We can also recommend visiting as here as a couple.

The title of this restaurant can be directly translated to “smoke”. This izakaya lives up to its name in the seasoning of the cuisine it serves by allowing you to enjoy the fresh ingredients they serve with a smoking seasoning. The smoked chips are seasoned with hickory are only beyond delicious.
Here you can enjoy food produced uniquely in Kyoto such as yuba and namafu. Having these smoked to enjoy is a wonderful experience you will want to try!
