At the rest place “Onnano Station Nakayukui Markt” you will find “Fruits Parlor Ryupin”. Here you will be served ice mountains that are both perfect visually and by taste. It is shaved ice called “ice mountain” that is served. In Okinawa it is also known as “Zenzai”.
However, it is not your normal shaved ice. The toppings and amount is unbelievable! You can enjoy it in any of the typical Okinawan flavors such as purple yam, brown sugar, and peanut tofu or other delicious fruit flavors such as strawberry and pineapple.
The most popular of all is the “Tropical Fruit” flavor that changes every season. Sharing these ice mountains in groups of 2 or 3 is highly recommended. Please come and share!

2. Blue Seal Icecream

This is an ice-cream flavor born in America and raised in Okinawa and it is loved by those living in Okinawa. When this ice-cream made its debut, it was of quality you could only taste at Blue Seal.
Now there are several other shops in other prefectures. The flavors available are the standard vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry and other more exotic Okinawan flavors such as Shekwasha and purple yam. There are also seasonal flavors available.

3. Okashigoten Yomitami Honten

There are several of these stores in Okinawa prefecture. The Yomitani store has a well assembled variety of purple yam and brown sugar sweets. These are flavors particular to Okinawa.
Here they sell the famous to Okinawa “Purple Yam Tart”! In addition, you can also observe the creation of “Chinsukou”, a cookie unique to Okinawa. This is a place your will want to visit as a tourist destination.

4. Fukugiya

Since its opening in 2011, this shop that specializes in Baumkuchen has been extremely popular. The secret to their marvelous flavor is definitely the ingredients they use. Their purple yams are from a separate island, as well as, their brown sugar. Even the food given to the chickens whose eggs are used is chosen carefully.
These Baumkuchen consist of 20 layers and take over an hour to bake. You can observe them baking it through a glass window.
The “plain” flavor is made with egg and honey and their “Gajumaru” is made with brown sugar and has a crusted edged. They also have a purple yam flavor. It you wish to buy souvenirs you can also purchase them in the Naha Airport terminal. Come and buy but beware that flavors do sell out!

The most notable thing about these cakes is they are made with natural ingredients that kids and adult can eat without concern or guilt. The cake is of the perfect texture for ones mouth. It is said that this store took its idea from a couple from Peru’s “orange cake”.
The flavors available are orange, chocolate, strawberry, cheese, pumpkin, green tea, and brown sugar among others. The size is 22 cm by 10cm but due to the light batter it is very easy to eat. If you are longing for something sweet please do visit!

6. Ryukyu Meika Mitsuya Honpo

“Sata andagi”, or the deep fried buns of Okinawa are the specialty of this shop. Since its origin in 1992 their home-made deep fried buns have been of much talk and popularity. You can also see their creation from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Plain, brown sugar, purple yam, pumpkin, sesame salt, cheese, mocha, and chocolate are 8 flavors available. We recommend buying a variety of flavors. If you cannot wait to eat them you may eat in the sitting area available. Here you can have freshly brewed coffee with your buns.
There are also buns made out of tapioca flour and donuts. Please do try these as well!

7. Jimmy’s

This store started in 1956 is made of red brick and has palm trees alongside it. Jimmy is the nickname of the founder when he worked on the military bases.
The products available are abundant in variety and include cake, cookies, and bread.
However, the undeniably most popular item on the menu is the apple pie. The apples are specially selected from those grown in Japan and are bake gradually and carefully in the oven. Because the size is “American” it is great for sharing with you family. You can also purchase these at a souvenir stop in the airport terminal to carry home.

This store is located in a shopping center opened in August of 2015 that overlooks the bay. The best shop here is “Sun Room Sweets SENAGAJIMA”. The most popular item on the menu is the mango cream cake.
You may take out from here or eat-in looking over the ocean. There are also pies and scones available so you have plenty to choose from! Please do come and enjoy!

“PUZO Cheese cake celler” is a specialty cheesecake shop. In fact, this is the first cheesecake shop in Okinawa where they also sell pudding and other pastries.
The most popular types of cheese cake are the “Premium cheesecake” and the “Love of Manhattan”. With the “Premium cheesecake” you can enjoy a rich flavor. The “Love of Manhattan” is made with cheese from Denmark and is a lighter flavor. Both are must haves!
In addition, at the Oroku Labo shop you can purchase the “Oroku Roll” between the hours of 12 and 4p.m. It often sells out so please visit earlier in the day!

Opening in 2009,”oHacorte” is the most popular fruit tart shop in Okinawa。It is popular with both the locals and tourists.
Each is 7cm in diameter but even this size is important to the finished product. They insure that all taste is preserved to perfection till consumption.
